Background

Oman Arab Bank and BPC, a global payment solutions provider, mark 10 years of partnership this year, a decade that has reshaped the bank’s card and payments business in Oman.

Over this time, the bank moved from local card services to a broader modern card offering, added contactless payments and rolled out instant card issuance.

The bank recently went live with Visa tokenization, a move that opens the door to more secure, digital-first payment options.

Oman Arab Bank now connects to local and international payment schemes, handles settlement and reconciliation, and brings new debit card products to market faster than before.

Customers feel the shift in day-to-day banking. Visa tokenization hides card details when customers pay through digital wallets or shop online. Customers also get internationally enabled cards, contactless payment options, and quicker card issuance, renewal or replacement through self-service channels.

Through the partnership, the bank grew its acquiring business to cover Visa, Mastercard and American Express, while updating card issuance and personalisation.

It added instant issuance through ATMs, letting customers manage cards and PINs without stepping into a branch. Card options now span Classic, Advantage, Platinum and Elite, plus Maal, Oman’s local card scheme backed by the Central Bank of Oman.

Looking forward, Oman Arab Bank is working with BPC to extend security across digital banking, core banking and corporate systems, with plans to bring fraud monitoring onto one platform instead of several separate systems.
