Background:

Sudair City for Industry and Businesses witnessed a major industrial boost on Feb 16 as Bandar Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources and Chairman of Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON), inaugurated several advanced factories aimed at strengthening the Kingdom’s food, pharmaceutical and construction sectors.

The new facilities form part of the ministry’s strategy to localize high-value industries and reduce reliance on imports, directly supporting national health and food security goals under Saudi Vision 2030.

The Sierra Life factory is the first facility in the Middle East to produce specialized medical foods for metabolic disorders. It will make therapeutic nutrition products for patients with conditions like phenylketonuria (PKU) and urea cycle disorders, as well as gluten-free and low-protein foods for people with celiac disease. Officials said the factory integrates advanced manufacturing technologies with strict global quality standards, creating a specialized medical-industrial hub in the region.

Alkhorayef also inaugurated Qomel Pharmaceutical Industries, which will support the localization of biopharmaceutical production. During his visit, he reviewed production lines for tablets and capsules, as well as quality control and regulatory systems designed to meet international standards.

In the food sector, the minister opened Al-Hatab Foods Factory, described as the largest chilled food facility in the Middle East. The factory has 15 production lines and makes over 6 million items each week, including juices, salads, and sandwiches. It uses modern methods to keep the food fresh longer without preservatives or heat treatment.

The tour also included the Industrial Orthopedic Co., which will manufacture rods, screws and artificial joints, including customized products using 3D printing technology. The project is in its final testing phase ahead of full production.

Additionally, Alkhorayef inaugurated a SR100 million construction panels factory with 80 percent automation and an annual capacity of 200,000 linear meters, along with ready-made factories developed by Pan Kingdom Co. Officials said these projects will enhance supply chains, attract investors and position the Kingdom as a growing industrial hub.
