Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has marked a major milestone in its 30-year journey in Saudi Arabia by naming one of its international vessels after the Kingdom and inaugurating a state-of-the-art logistics center at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.
The integrated logistics center, developed by MSC’s logistics arm MEDLOG, covers 100,000 square meters and represents an investment of more than SR150 million ($39.9 million). The project will improve the port’s operations, support trade, and offer modern logistics services.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority. Al-Jasser praised the initiative, calling it a “qualitative transformation in the transport and logistics sector” and highlighting its role in reinforcing Saudi ports among leading regional and international gateways.
Al-Jasser said the center will improve trade, boost Saudi Arabia’s logistics, and enhance its competitiveness globally. He added that the vessel naming and logistics center symbolize the long-standing strategic partnership between MSC and Saudi Arabia, reflecting confidence in the Kingdom’s business environment.
Suliman Al-Mazroua, president of the Saudi Ports Authority, said that naming the vessel highlights Saudi Arabia’s important role in global supply chains. He added that the new logistics center supports the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a hub connecting three continents.
King Abdulaziz Port, known for its modern facilities, has 43 berths and can handle up to 105 million tonnes of cargo and containers each year. The new center will boost the port’s capacity and attract more shipping companies.
