Key Background

Emirates has delayed introducing its Airbus A350 on the Dubai–Muscat route after a surprise surge in summer air travel demand. The flight was initially scheduled to start on July 1 but was now open a week earlier to allow passengers to transfer from Oman to the UAE. The move is part of Emirates’ business strategy to increase regional flying experience while achieving the highest utilization of aircraft during peak season.

The airline will have an overnight rotation for these A350 flights with flight EK866 leaving Dubai at 2:15 am and arriving in Muscat at 3:30 am. The return flight, EK867, leaves Muscat at 4:40 am and reaches Dubai at 5:55 am. These early morning flights are timed to offer customers convenient and swift connections to other long-haul routes from Dubai, which is a great position as an international aviation hub.

Airbus A350 usage on the short route is an indicator of Emirates’ commitment to providing a superior travel experience even for domestic routes. The A350 boasts modern cabin architecture including higher ceilings and wider aisles, and innovative lighting systems that reduce passenger fatigue. Its three-class configuration has lie-flat Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, a stand-alone Premium Economy cabin of 21 seats in a 2-3-2 layout, and a spacious Economy cabin of 259 seats in a 3-3-3 layout.

The aircraft is also equipped with the latest in-flight entertainment and super-high-speed Wi-Fi to offer greater comfort and connectivity to passengers. Emirates added two additional weekly A350 flights on Saturdays and Thursdays to meet the summer boom as well.

This deployment is among Emirates’ overall fleet expansion and renewal strategy, for instance, up to 65 Airbus A350s by 2025. The operation will add operating flexibility in the Middle East’s vast markets, West Asia, and Europe, and the Muscat route is already being added to the list of expanding A350 routes.
