Background
AD Ports Group and IRH Global Trading have signed an agreement to consider bunkering services and alternative marine fuels at Khalifa Port, UAE.
The agreement involves the two companies exploring opportunities to deliver bunkering services to ships at Khalifa Port, as well as taking forward alternative fuel solutions such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), biofuels and methanol. They will also review the evolution of fuel storage infrastructure, terminal facilities and fuel sampling and testing facilities.
This partnership is designed to enhance Khalifa Port’s position as a modern deep-water port and to help address the demand for cleaner shipping fuel alternatives. The partnership is in line with the initiatives towards enhancing port infrastructure and the UAE’s position as a global trade and logistics hub, both companies said.
Saif Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer of AD Ports Group’s (ADG) Ports Cluster, stated that the partnership is a testament to the Ports Cluster’s strategy to foster strategic partnerships for sustainable infrastructure and future-ready port services. Engaging with IRH would also enhance the country’s logistics and trade capacity, he added.
The deal is in line with IRH’s vision of growing its global energy trading platform, said Ali Alrashdi, Group Chief Executive Officer of International Resources Holding. He also said that bunkering and alternative marine fuels are huge growth areas and that Khalifa Port is a good place to develop the services.
The collaboration will consider feasible opportunities for enhancing maritime fuel services, as well as efficient and environmentally friendly shipping operations, the companies said.
