Saudi Arabia Calls for Bids to Boost Power Supply for Expo 2030

Prime Highlights

Saudi Arabia invites bids for the power substations project for Expo 2030.

The project aims to strengthen the electricity supply in Riyadh ahead of the global event.

Key Facts

The project includes the construction of 132/13.8kV substations and grid connections.

It supports Saudi Vision 2030 to modernize infrastructure and boost long-term capacity.

Background

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia invited bids for a significant power infrastructure project to support the 2030 Riyadh Expo, which signifies an enhancement to transform the capital in time for the global event. The project, to be led by Saudi Energy, is to encompass the construction of new substations to secure a reliable electricity supply during the expo.

Given the fact that the tender covers the development of three 132/13.8kV substations and the relative activities that will necessitate their connection to the national electricity grid, the project is crucial. Installing these facilities for the Expo site and the surrounding areas is essential, considering the expected high demand for power.

This project complements the broader infrastructure upgradation that seeks to enhance Riyadh’s T&D (transmission and distribution) network ahead of the event. With millions of intended visits, an uninterrupted and efficient power supply is at the top of the list of tasks for the authorities. The substations will support the surrounding urban areas and their transportation systems while providing capacity for the upcoming city energy distribution system development.

The ongoing infrastructure enhancements will deliver continuous advantages to the city because they will improve grid capacity and operational reliability throughout the entire capital. Helping to enhance Saudi Vision 2030, this project also focuses on modernizing key industries in Saudi Arabia and delivering major development projects across the country.

The bidding process not only helps Riyadh prepare for Expo 2030 but also demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to building strong energy systems for the future.
